Generally speaking, free school meals are available to students from low-income families. In order to be eligible, a family’s annual income must fall below a certain threshold. That threshold is typically around £7,400 for a family.

In order to receive free school meals, parents must fill out an application and submit it to their child’s school district. Once approved, the district will provide the student with a meal card that can be used at any participating school in the district. Some districts also offer reduced-price meals for students from families who do not qualify for free meals but still struggle to make ends meet.

Do All Schools Offer Free School Meals?

Not all schools offer free school meals. However, most public schools do participate in the Free School Meals Program, which means they must offer free or reduced-price meals to eligible students. Private schools are not required to participate, but many choose to do so anyway.
